Dance of Caring Souls

I caught the calling to care… for everything everywhere… still with so much to learn… about the way the world will turn…

Co-Written with Dara Downs… When we sat down to write this song, she didn’t think we were actually going to write a song. A little bit of wine and a lot of laughs later, we learned how much we needed to spend time processing and decompressing what we were in the midst of in the early summer of 2020. What we gravitated toward was the true nature of trusting and counting on each other in a battle zone. Dara wanted to write a song that was a tribute to anyone who has ever been called to a caring profession, and also something she could dance to.

I wanna dance, holding hands, around the dove

I wanna dance, holding hands, caring for love

this is the dance of caring souls….we are here to celebrate… everything we’ve been through… in the midst of what we do… when we are caring for the sick, when we are caring for each other, while we care for ourselves, when we are caring for our enemy’s brother…

The inspiration for ‘Dance of Caring Souls’ came from a tattoo Dara got when she first moved to the US from Ireland. The tattoo was based on ‘The Dance’ by Henri Matisse. Later as she was completing her graduate program in Nursing, the image was part of her studies in a nursing textbook demonstrating the Theory of Caring.

To me, this song is an anthem to caregivers around the world, joining hands in peace, with the mission to take good care and support each other not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually as well. It’s also a thank you note to all of the great teachers we have had that have taught us to care deeply in so many ways…

We all hold a few names… that guided us along the way… they’re the ones who twirled with us… in the dance of care and love

We are all connected on many levels.
