Forever Young For SAFPAW

A couple weeks ago I shared that our community came together to make a video to raise awareness for The Southern Alliance for People and Animal Welfare
(SAFPAW.ORG) and HERE IT IS! Led by Steve Poltz we recorded a version of Bob Dylan’s ‘Forever Young.’

Recorded at Cartoon Moon Studios in East Nashville, TN, the track features
lead vocals from Poltz – who often closes his own live shows with the Dylan standard, originally featured on 1974’s Planet Waves – with backing by drummer Ken Coomer (Uncle Tupelo, Wilco, Clockhammer), bassist Ted Pecchio (Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks Band), guitarist Anthony DaCosta (Sarah Jarosz, Molly Tuttle), and saxophonist Paul Thacker (The Nashville Horns), along with an all-star choir that includes as Langhorne Slim, Chuck Mead (BR-549), Brian Wright, and The Doobie
Brothers’ John Cowan, Suzie Brown Sax, Judy Blank, Jon Latham, Amelia White, Audrey Anna, Gina Bacon. The video, filmed at the session by award-winning
musician/director Scot Sax (Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Faith Hill & Tim McGraw), with additional photography by Madison Thorn. The track was produced by Tim Easton and engineered and mixed by Gabriel Masterson. Stacie Huckeba also provided support and artistic direction.

As the temperatures have taken a sudden dip, people and animals living without a home are suddenly in a state of emergency. Shelters do not always provide an appropriate environment for this population, especially those who have pets. One of the greatest aspects of SAFPAW is that they take care of the fur babies along with the humans, including taking them to vet appointments, providing food and needed medications. Right now SAFPAW founder Laurie Green is working hard around the clock to provide propane, blankets, and tents for those who live outside. Emergency shelters are open, and she personally picks up folks and takes them there, but often people don’t want to go because they don’t want to leave their animals behind.

I spend a lot of time in this world feeling helpless, asking ‘what can I do to help?’ Here is a place to start. Donate to SAFPAW by going to this link.

In addition, Stacie Huckeba, who assists Laurie during this busy season, has an Amazon Wish List where you can pick out what you’d like to donate. It ships right to her house and then she and Laurie personally deliver the donations to those in need. It is so moving to follow Stacie as she so heartfully connects to folx and she couldn’t do it without the help of donors. It makes a difference in real time.
